“Has the work been done with a permit?” is a question that sometimes comes up when I help buyers purchase a home. When work has been done with a permit, one can assume that it is done to basic construction and safety standards. One never knows what is behind a wall when work was performed without a permit. This is why I always recommend doing work with a permit. It might be a slight hassle up front, but will save you from a lot of headaches — and costs! — later.
